French materials company Lactips and US packaging technology company SmartSolve Industries have announced a partnership to develop bio-based, water-soluble packaging materials. The announcement was issued from Paris, France; the material supplied did not specify a date.

According to the companies, they have taken PureNil 0 from early development through a staged research and development process to commercial scale in less than two years. The companies describe the resin as entirely bio-based, water-soluble and biodegradable in multiple environments. They also say the resulting material disperses rapidly in water without leaving microplastic residues.

SmartSolve and Lactips describe PureNil 0 as a plastic-free alternative for single-use packaging. They say the material is approved for direct food contact and has reached commercial scale.
