Lecta launches Metalvac Ice Cream, a recyclable metallized paper developed for ice cream cone packaging.

Lecta’s new recyclable metallized paper for ice cream cone packaging
Lecta has introduced Metalvac Ice Cream, a metallized paper designed specifically for the packaging of ice cream cones. The new product aims to offer a recyclable alternative to conventional laminate packaging in the frozen food sector.

Available in 123 gsm, Metalvac Ice Cream features a metallized surface suitable for offset, flexographic, and rotogravure printing. According to Lecta, the material includes a water-vapor barrier that helps preserve wafer cones in direct contact with the packaging throughout the distribution chain.

The product is recyclable within the paper and cardboard recycling stream, meeting CEPI recyclability standards. Its development aligns with ongoing efforts across the packaging industry to improve environmental performance without sacrificing technical functionality.

Metalvac Ice Cream is part of Lecta’s broader Metalvac range, which includes high-vacuum metallized papers offering heat-sealability and barriers to light, oxygen, water vapor, and aroma. These papers are produced without added PFAS and are noted for their resistance to moisture and grease.

Lecta states that the papers are compatible with standard packing lines and provide good runnability, which supports operational efficiency during packaging processes. The low aluminum content of 0.08 gsm in Metalvac Ice Cream is cited as contributing to its barrier properties while maintaining recyclability.

All grades in the Metalvac range are manufactured following Good Manufacturing Practices and are certified under various international standards, including ISO 14001 (environmental management), ISO 50001 (energy efficiency), ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety), and FSSC 22000 (food safety). Chain of Custody certifications from PEFC and FSC® are also available upon request.

With this launch, Lecta expands its paper-based packaging solutions portfolio targeted at food applications, responding to increasing demand for materials that combine performance with sustainability.
