Nexgen Packaging opens African Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya

Nexgen Packaging has opened its African headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, marking a significant step for the global provider of apparel brand identification and packaging products. The event, attended by dignitaries including His Excellency Hon. William Samoei Ruto, Ph.D., C.G.H., President of the Republic of Kenya, and Meg Whitman, U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, highlighted Nexgen’s commitment to sustainable practices.

 

Located in the Export Processing Zone in Athi River, Nairobi, the facility represents Nexgen’s dedication to sustainable building materials, products, and employee welfare. CEO Jim Welch emphasized the company’s role as the first global supplier in this industry to establish a presence in Kenya, stating, “Our investment underscores Nexgen’s dedication to meeting the needs of our customers, particularly as demand for apparel, footwear, and home products from Africa grows.”

 

The new facility in Kenya complements Nexgen’s existing operations in Egypt and West Africa, serving as the primary production location for Africa and the central hub for product distribution across the continent. Partnering with Contech Container Technology Ltd., Nexgen has constructed its facility using upcycled shipping containers, showcasing its commitment to sustainability.

 

Goutham Reddy, director of Best Lifestyle Kenya EPZ Ltd., praised Nexgen’s expansion into Kenya, stating, “The establishment of Nexgen Packaging in Kenya marks a significant milestone for the Kenyan garment sector, encouraging further investment in the country.” Jehan Jayasuriya, CMO of MAS Intimates, added, “Nexgen’s expansion into Kenya strengthens our garment manufacturing processes and supply chain.”

 

The facility is equipped to produce and deliver various packaging products, including care labels, heat transfers, RFID tags, brand identification products, woven labels, and other packaging solutions.

 

Nexgen is also creating employment opportunities in Nairobi, with close to 100 jobs in production, sales, marketing, finance, and administration.
