Sidel Unveils Ultra-Small, Ultra-Light PET Bottle for Liquid Dairy Products

The bottle would also suit applications within the juice, nectar, soft drinks, isotonics and tea sector.

Sidel has introduced a new PET bottle designed to provide a competitive edge for liquid dairy manufacturers. The miniature-sized bottle, catering to capacities between 65ml to 150ml, is particularly suited for products like drinking and probiotic yogurts, fitting seamlessly into both ambient and cold chain processes. Additionally, its versatility extends to applications in the juice, nectar, soft drinks, isotonics, and tea sector.

Laurent Naveau, Packaging Innovator Leader at Sidel, highlights the bottle’s significance in supporting the liquid dairy product industry, positioning PET packaging as an increasingly attractive alternative. As part of Sidel’s ongoing packaging optimization program, the bottle is crafted to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower costs, and open up new marketing opportunities for manufacturers.

The advanced sustainability and cost efficiency of Sidel’s ultra-light bottle center around PET’s affordability and its status as the only food-grade bottle-to-bottle recycled plastic. Manufacturers transitioning from polystyrene to PET can achieve up to a 40% cost reduction, and a 20% reduction from high-density polyethylene (HDPE).

Naveau underscores the bottle’s eco-friendly design, weighing just 3.9g for a 100ml extended shelf-life bottle and 5.4g for a 100ml aseptic bottle, achieved through a dedicated preform design. The preform design is qualified for 100% recycled PET (rPET) content and enables low blowing pressure below 15 bars, ensuring total product integrity and compatibility with various capping solutions.

In a market where shelf appeal is crucial, the new ultra-small bottle offers creative options such as different formats, shapes, one-shot or multi-serve consumption, the use of white or transparent PET, multiple graphics and textures, and a variety of bottle necks and caps. It is also compatible with roll-fed or sleeve labeling.

Built on a uniquely designed preform, Sidel’s ultra-small bottle ensures a wide process window even with reduced heating zones, guaranteeing optimum material distribution for high bottle performance. With over 40 years of experience, Sidel offers a complete line solution for liquid dairy and sensitive products. The bottle size aligns with the company’s Aseptic Combi Predis™ Fma, a simple and rapid aseptic solution with dry preform decontamination, suitable for high production speeds of up to 66,000 bottles per hour.
