STI Group develops one-piece click box for detergent pod packaging

Fibre-based detergent pod packaging developed by STI Group for household product applications

STI Group has introduced a new one-piece corrugated board packaging concept for detergent pods, aimed at simplifying packaging construction while reducing material use and improving recyclability. The development reflects the broader packaging industry shift toward fibre-based alternatives for household and e-commerce applications.

Called the “One-piece Click Box,” the packaging integrates the box structure, closure mechanism, and tamper-evident functionality into a single corrugated format. According to the company, the design was developed as an alternative to conventional multi-part detergent pod containers and is intended to improve operational efficiency during packing and handling.

The packaging has been designed with child-resistant functionality while maintaining ease of opening for adult consumers. STI Group stated that the structure reduces complexity by eliminating additional packaging components commonly used in traditional detergent pod boxes.

From a packaging operations perspective, the one-piece construction may support faster assembly and reduced logistics complexity by enabling flat transport and simplified filling processes. The fibre-based corrugated format also aligns with growing market demand for recyclable and paper-based packaging formats across the household and consumer goods sectors.

The development comes as packaging producers and brand owners continue evaluating alternatives to plastic-heavy household product packaging, particularly in categories such as detergents, home care, and e-commerce distribution. Industry focus has increasingly shifted toward mono-material and paper-based structures that can support recycling systems while maintaining product protection and regulatory compliance.
