AuraVeo turns El Caficultor coffee packaging into a direct subscription channel

AuraVeo by Koenig & Bauer has partnered with Appetite Creative and speciality coffee brand El Caficultor to introduce packaging that connects shoppers to product information and coffee subscriptions.

Announced in London on 15 September 2026, the system will be demonstrated at London Packaging Week on 16–17 September. It helps El Caficultor reconnect with retail and food-service customers.

Each coffee variety carries a unique QR code. Scanning it opens a mobile page explaining where the coffee was grown, its altitude and processing method. The page also provides its sensory profile, cupping score, varietal and flavour characteristics before offering the consumer a 10% discount on a subscription.

The rollout covers four coffees in El Caficultor’s 100% Arábica range: Cerrado Dulce from Brazil, Sidamo from Ethiopia, La Vereda from Colombia and Selva Negra from Nicaragua.

AuraVeo manages the experience through its cloud platform. El Caficultor can therefore change the information linked to each code without reprinting its packaging. The system can record which product was scanned and, with consumer consent, collect first-party data about interactions originating from physical retail channels.

Appetite Creative designed the labels and mobile experience. It placed each QR code within a country-map illustration on the front of the pack instead of positioning it on the back. The code appears with the Spanish instruction “Escanea y ahorra”, meaning “Scan and Save”.

“The important point is that the QR code is not simply a link,” said Sandra Wagner, CEO of AuraVeo. “It gives the brand a way to keep the experience current, understand consumer behaviour, and give an interested customer a clear next step.” The project turns each pack into a route from an initial retail purchase to a direct subscription.
