Canon South Africa has appointed Tunca Rodoplu as Country Director, effective 1 July 2026, succeeding David Preston, who will retire on 30 June 2026 after a 38-year career with the company.

Rodoplu will lead Canon South Africa’s strategy across Southern Africa and oversee growth initiatives spanning the company’s imaging and printing technology portfolio. He joins the role after serving as Sales & Marketing Director for B2B at Canon South Africa, where he was responsible for commercial strategy and customer and partner engagement across the sub-Saharan market for integrated printing solutions.

In his new position, Rodoplu will focus on strengthening partner networks and direct sales channels across the region. His responsibilities will also include expanding Canon’s digital production printing and imaging solutions business while increasing the company’s presence in the office printing market.

Rodoplu said: “Our ambition is to grow Canon’s presence in Southern Africa by working closely with our partners and customers to deliver integrated solutions that create real business value. At the same time, we remain committed to helping organisations operate more sustainably by reducing their environmental impact, fully aligned with Canon’s Kyosei philosophy.”

He succeeds Preston, who joined Canon in 1988 and held several senior leadership positions during his tenure, including B2B Development Director and Strategy Director for the Emerging Markets Business Unit. He was appointed Managing Country Director of Canon South Africa in 2020.

According to the company, Preston led the business for six years, during which Canon increased its market share in key segments and modernised operational processes. During his leadership, the company achieved a Level 3 B-BBEE rating and launched initiatives including the Canon Young People Programme and the Miraisha Programme.

The leadership transition comes as Canon continues to develop its presence across Southern Africa’s printing, imaging and business technology markets, with Rodoplu set to assume responsibility for the company’s regional operations from July 2026.
